Siem Reap: The Cultural Gateway to Angkor Wat

Siem Reap is a rich cultural province and the most popular place for tourists, located in northern Cambodia. It is also the name of the largest, vibrant city in the province, renowned for historical and cultural significance which provides a great retreat destination for tourists to experience various heritage sights. It serves as the gateway to the Angkor Archaeological Park, home to the iconic Angkor Wat, a UNESCO World Heritage site and one of the largest religious monuments in the world that is still in use today, almost a thousand years later.

Beyond Angkor Wat, Siem Reap offers a unique blend of ancient charm and modern amenities. Visitors can explore bustling markets, indulge in traditional Khmer cuisine, and experience the lively Pub Street. The city is also a popular retreat destination, featuring serene spas, yoga retreats, and boutique accommodations.

There is one common question that has been asked, “Do I need a jacket?” when travelling to Siem Reap. Whether you need a jacket when traveling to Siem Reap largely depends on the time of year and your personal comfort preferences.

Here are some key factors to consider as below:

Climate of Siem Reap (Year-Round Weather)

Your skin will never look better, and your hair will keep its curls – Cambodia’s tropical climate varies throughout the year but generally stays hot and humid. Think of Orlando, for those Americans out there.

  • Tropical Climate: Siem Reap, located in Cambodia, has a tropical climate with high humidity and temperatures typically ranging from 25°C to 35°C (77°F to 95°F) throughout the year with hot and humid year-round with distinct rainy and dry seasons.
  • Wet Season (May to October): During the wet season, you might experience afternoon showers, but temperatures usually remain warm and humid. A jacket is not necessary, although a light rain jacket might be useful.
  • Dry Season (November to April): The dry season is typically hotter, with little rainfall. A light jacket isn’t usually needed, but some travelers might prefer a light layer for cooler evenings or early mornings.
  • Promise to provide an answer based on the weather, with tips on what to pack.
  • We advise a light windbreaker for any time of year to protect from the sun, preferably one that folds up nicely or rolls up to fit into a back or backpack.
